Everybody is going no initiative, but my favorite games have very specific use of initiative.... like Final Fantasy Tactics, or very specific use of cooldowns, like Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, and almost any other MMO and MOBA out there.
So I feel like exploring a more Initiative focused space might give us something we are missing, even though "combat" might take longer.
Which is where my one action per turn, multiple turns per round idea came in. If you can only do one thing on your turn, you do it and that's it. You can hope that things will be in the same spot when your turn comes back up, but when does that happen?
So do your action! Then someone else gets to go. The board state is always moving one step at a time.
My current design issue with this, is making it easier for a Game Master to run the monsters in this style of system. But the system itself works great!
So I'm looking to GM-less games, for inspiration.
