One thing with game design that really bothers me... as 2D games are getting all HD and what not, is that they have been adding such busy backgrounds that you can't tell action from background. Especially in 3D made 2D games.
We need to add a bit of a barrier, diffusion, blur or something between background and what the player interacts with. One of the STRENGTHS of older games was the limited background, allowing for easier understanding of what you are looking at. The game shouldn't be hard, just because I can't see.
