One of my favorite things about working on Anarchy Realms, is adding really interesting ideas, especially ideas that you don't see except in MMOs and MOBAs.
For example:
Combat (In/Out) - While in combat, things that happen while in combat happen. While out of combat, things that happen while out of combat happen. If in combat, you can go out of combat if hidden for more than 10 initiative, or if not attacked or attacking and over 6 spaces away from all enemies for more than 10 Initiative.

Had a great D&D session. Player's birthday celebration went along with them facing an enemy that had possessed a god, and their offspring that had 20 years worth of wishes granted to them.

The end result was time travel, pocket dimensions, and the character fulfilling their level 1 goal of growing antlers and becoming an elder fey.

Just to point out a few things: I ended up using species because Anarchy Realms has a bit of a aliens from the moon feeling about things.

I figured that the whole concept being Heritage or Lineage would make more sense, especially since there is also a Culture section.

So you could have grown up among the bees and that got you able to dance a bit better and understand what the pheromones you are smelling mean.

So in 5.14 D&D terms, that would be things like Elven Weapon training, would be a Culture thing, and the No Sleeping Trance would be part of being an Elf as a species.

Having to get used to working again. The heat has been stopping me. But now, I have slightly cooler days, so I'm barrelling back into doing work.

Doesn't help the my "real job" paid me $1000 less because of client cancellations.

Between the heat of summer and my work schedule, I kinda went into a burn out mode of going to stores after work just to exist in air conditioning.

So when I come back and see that dair-community.social is blocked, and I lost 1 person I was following, I go, okay, what happened there?

I'm glad I know that it happened. I'm glad to know who it was (they were a computer scientist), but I don't know why that server was suspended.

So, what happens if I want to find a way to follow this person still? I'm not on X (another platform they are on). I'm okay, when a person leaves a platform, or if I do, but I'm not sure what to do with this, or what steps I can use to remedy this in the future. Do I need to also have an account on that server? Because I don't even know why this happened.

I had a chance to play against the people who labled me "group hate". And I feel like I rescued them from some people trying to do some really messy things, and it was interesting seeing them getting to play when you hate out in the right directions.

I felt like a protector. It reminded me of when I started playing commander, and all I could do is kingmaker.

It made me miss all my friends I used to play with. Even if you make friends and they would never leave you, sometimes, life doesn't give us a choice. And when you are always on the side of others leaving, it can leave you some sort of way.

To all those out there who are alone, because we were walked away from, remember some people get dragged away, they don't do it on purpose. Don't be afraid to keep opening your heart to new people.

"My wife has no emotions" started off as what appeared to be little 4 panel comics converted into an anime, but I worry is falling into trope only territory. Will it come out the other side, or will this be its new normal?

This anime is the story of a man who bought a used (2nd hand) cooking robot, and falls in love with it. The robot agrees to his proposal of marriage. Things continue from there.

"Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!" has a concept that I'm really liking for episode one, and that I hope does not fall into trope traps many other anime do.

It is very much a "otherside of the story" story about the girls who lose in the love triangle, and the protagonist who happens to witness it.

The first "loser" girl's reaction to being caught doing a 2nd hand kiss from her lost love when they ran off is probably one of the few times I had the same emotions as the protagonist.

The story keeps going from that moment in what I can only assume will be a series of unfortunate repetitions of similar situations.

It’s not that the little things bother me really. It’s more that they keep piling on in rapid succession without being addressed. Someone says something in such a way as to leave things unresolved. There is no concrete request or question, just a statement, said in such a way as to ask me to do something with it.
“I’m going to the hospital. This is the address,” she said to me handing me a piece of paper. She couldn’t be bothered to ask me for a ride, or anything. So I have to stand here, like a schmuck and either ask her if she wants me there, or let her go. And I don’t even fucking know what she wants.

I need help processing my emotions.

My aunt passed away two days ago. She was one of my mom's older siblings and was on the surface a nice person. Note I haven't seen her in over 24 years and before that it was 8 years and before that it was 4 years. So, this isn't a super close person.

She was changing homes, and when she did, she temporarily lived with us (my mom and me). Then she got established.

Later, we lost our home so we temporarily lived with her. Then we moved away, and it took 8 years before I saw her again. At a family reunion at her home (she went from homeless to having her own house).

Meanwhile, nothing worked out for my mom and we were poor, living in an apartment. My mom was working 3 jobs. Her sister, had started her own business.

Sometime after the reunion, my Aunt's husband got sick. She needed financial help, and asked my mom. Mom told her we were poor and could not spare any money, and my Aunt accused her of wanted he husband dead. (He got better and is still alive).

Now what?

Wow... what a crazy session today. I had no idea what today was going to be about. We ended up with several brain probes, paying the price for others mistakes, forgetting the whole point of getting somewhere, tiamat swallowed by a black hole, a secret oni brothel in a temple, and a player finally reading Hunger of Hadar and not realizing it made slurping noises...immediately asked to unlearn the spell.

I find that it does me no harm for the players to be successful in the game, but I do like to jab in issues to what they are doing.
For example, they were successful in leading a war against an Elder Brain, but that win allowed another evil to gain in power, and changed the political landscape in the game permanently.
So it gives them a thing to look towards, but they still succeeded in what they wanted to do.

Not to mention, when they can't find the note in someone's pocket, because their investigation roll is too low, it might be better to tilt the luck in their favor.

So degrees of success: So if a standard success is DC15, and -5 is DC10 to get it with a complication, and -10 is DC5 to mean they fail (maybe they get pointed in the opposite direction, or are given the information in a way that leaves them suspicious).

So after that what happens with the +5? I mean I succeeded already... so I like maybe adding some money into the same pocket, or something like that.

What I'm thinking (experiment I want to run) is (maybe I should key in first that in Anarchy Realms you always attack two defenses), on reflex miss you deal 50% reduced damage, on miss by 5+ (so a 10 against a reflex 15) its 75% and by 10+ it is a full miss or technically 100%.

Similarly 5 over is 25% more damage. 10 is 50%, etc.

Vs Fortitude, missing applies the armor as damage reduction, 5 below is doubled, and 10 below is tripled etc.

Fort over adds a die of base damage for each 5 over.

I want to run numbers and come up with the Willpower defense effect before I continue the thought excercise but yeah, might be good. It also means very often you don't get a nothing roll, but losing 50% plus 7 damage reduction on a hit might still feel bad? And not be worth the math.

Thinking is such a pain when it comes to making encounters. And 4e monster manual was so good at helping you not have to think.

I want that more as a tool, than just calculating CR experience. Cause its never right. But like, you tell me to use a Bruiser, two lurkers, and 6 artillery minions for the fight, and suddenly that's a good fight. That's what I want. The variety. Stupid ass 5e.

Biggest lore change that occurred in my dnd campaign was that the players were warned that the dragonborn Empress would gain power and horrible things would occur if they killed the elder brain because it was keeping the Empress drugged up.

When they killed it anyways, the Empress became more aggressive against the Harengon, using more and more of them as food so her small island nation would not starve. So the rabbitfolk in order to not get eaten anymore turned to necromancy.

This resulted in one of the players who is stoutly against necromancy coming across harengon children playing with animated stillborn siblings as if they were baby dolls.

It is probably the most nightmare inducing visual I have ever gotten as a piece of body horror in the campaign.

Once you start playing with initiative tracking like in Anarchy Realms, suddenly you can have skill involved. My favorite is, that you can actually hit a spell back to the caster.

There is the hard way, and then there is the easy way with Shield Slam. Shield Slam lets you slam your opp with a shield, and then keep your shield raised for blocking (Pathfinder 2, is this you?).

But then, you can Shield Slam a caster to stop their spell casting (and if you do, the excess mana they were going to use deals damage to them in the form of mana burn).

But when they do target you, and you happen to be a fucking legend with a shield, you can Shield Slam the fucking spell back to them, taking only 20% of the damage, and reflecting back the other 80%!

I'm in love with this game, and honestly, the faster I can get this out to people the better, but I'm trying to get it right too.

So I was talking to my friend about Anarchy Realms, and the things that I'm excited about, and they suddenly got excited about the same things, and it was like, "waaaaaaaaaaah!" Light shining and I'm like, I think people will get really excited for this!

They said, ""Reactions begin on the following initiative of the action it reacts to." So you start Countering a spell before the spell is finished casting, and if youre too slow the spell resolves before it can be countered? am i understanding that right? And even that kind of implies that Counterspells dont really exist, youre just undoing the effect created by the spell as it resolves. A Fireball would have to be countered with Healing or Protection magic - you couldnt counter a spell you didnt already have a solution to... hmm. Paying attention to this."

and I said, "Yes. So most spell cast doesn't occur until the spell initiative ends, and stronger spells use more initiative."

I have not played commander in over 4 years. Tonight I won 2 out of 3 games and received an awesome compliment from people with new shiny ultra powerful commander strategies which was, "What power level did you say your deck was again?" There's something amazing about winning when told to mill your deck, or winning because someone board wipes you. So happy my rusted bucket of a deck still does something.

Facebook group I'm in had this... looks like it's been taken down, but apparently the same person keeps making new accounts and joining just to do this crap.

Comments from a complaint post about it said that this is a problem poster for 4 years. They are not removed from the group. But it also shows that none of these "same people" have posted even though they are members. So its not counting cause their posts are probably removed quickly.

But it also feels like it's leaving some 1% bacteria to grow and infect people.

My first instinct is to leave the group, because its not doing enough, but I'm not sure if there are better actions I can take to improve the results.

Some days I feel like I'm never going to be gay enough, trans enough, non-binary enough for people in the LGBTQIA community. For over 30 years, I've been turned away.

The most accepting person was a kid in my middle school, who noticed I always used a stall in the boys room and asked me if I was actually a girl. Which is funny cause 3 years earlier he had uppercut me because he thought I had thrown a basketball at him, even though I was holding onto a basketball. And I bled so much and walked home looking like a zombie survivor in a horror movie.

Why am I like this? Why am I only seeing all my trauma so long after it could be helped and now I'm just holding onto it all, miserable and sad, and crying alone when I was supposed to go to a pride event.

There are flat defenses (Reflex, Fortitude, Willpower) but you can also turn those into a roll as an active defense which can translate getting hit into a critical miss even!

Because the system is more granular than take 3 actions, you end up in situations that are similar to Pathfinder 2 (you take 3 actions), you also have other valves that help control the action economy so that people don't just sit there attacking all day. This is all designed with how I misunderstood 2e initiative, 28 years ago. I've carried this torch for almost 3 decades.

It is a deep and cultural instilling of white supremacy that pervades the culture of my fellow European Americans.
Things that we take as being quirks or positive traits are things that white supremacy uses to instill a separation in us from our cousins in the global majority. Examples of this are things like, "Its okay, I hate everyone equally" or even perfectionism.
An example is precise speech when it comes to how someone other than a white person speaks, versus acceptance of changed words and patterns when a white person says it. You may not realize you are doing it, or judging someone for it, because, "haha they said aks instead of ask" but you accept assassination as a word and that is more made up than the metathesis of ask.

I'm very curious about TTRPGs that run combat with player first, monsters last initiative (Nimble, Daggerheart), because D&D, there is a trend for my players to do that, but its not a guarantee, and we often have one or two players stuck in the dregs of initiative. Between this and order of operations, and we get part of the challenge of the fight.

But I started running combat in my games the way the run it in Baldur's Gate 3. So clusters of player and enemy turns are taken as people please. This has significantly sped up a lot of combat, except when players are trying to see if someone else downs a creature, for focus fire reasons.

This has stunted the artificial difficulty of the fights, and that has been a huge boon to the game sessions.

I've been working on the next part of Chapter 1 of Anarchy Realms. This is the part that explains actions and other attributes you have (such as making attacks, your defenses, your skills etc). This is the general stuff that every character gets or has access to. This will be an overview. The actual details will be fully developed in Chapter 4.

Chapter 1 very much is to act like a full description of the game, with as few details as possible, but enough that someone could read that one chapter and understand the whole rest of the game.

Then Chapter 2 will be specific to how you develop your character, and what those choices mean.

Chapter 2 will be the biggest chapter, what with species, roles, styles, power sources, and classes to choose from!

Chapter 3 will cover how you level up and progress.

Chapter 5 will be the adventure session, and how to handle the different zones of play.

Chapter 6 will be the Action cards, and details on combat (both martial and social).

So my Saturday group had been complaining about NEEDING to be everywhere in the game world to solve all the problems. I explained to them, that every conversation will always have someone saying, "I need this done quickly" but that doesn't mean it has to be done immediately. And so that's why you guys never take down time.

So while they were stuck somewhere, I went ahead and rolled some events so that another ally group of theirs solved a problem they couldn't get to. And the result.... while the problem was solved, it very much made certain things worst.

One thing with game design that really bothers me... as 2D games are getting all HD and what not, is that they have been adding such busy backgrounds that you can't tell action from background. Especially in 3D made 2D games.

We need to add a bit of a barrier, diffusion, blur or something between background and what the player interacts with. One of the STRENGTHS of older games was the limited background, allowing for easier understanding of what you are looking at. The game shouldn't be hard, just because I can't see.

Waiting to get my test shirt. The whole system is actually really weird. You need money to run this. Like... starting money. And none of the videos saying make money, open your own store covers this. You are an intermediary between the sales and the manufacturing.

All these online systems talk well enough to each other for transferring sales information, but fail to take what is needed over to the other one.

So, for every order that comes in, I uave to pay out of pocket, then, I get paid out later by the seller site, to cover it. The seller site takes their cut, which wats into the shipping cost, and if I'm not careful, if a printer is unavailable and I uave to order the same shirt at a higher price, I might pay out of pocket for the shirt.

Not one video I have seen has covered this possibility.

Episode 9 of xmen 97 shows magneto having properly responded to Bastion, but then not resetting the world so it doesn't kill everyone. He didn't join the xmen to go stop Bastion and then fix the world after.

It is a literal allegory to what is happening with Israel and Palestine. Magneto is literally Israel. Growing up, I was taught that if I'm being chased, to kneecap the other people running with me, so that the thing chasing me is busy with them and doesn't get to me.

That is a lesson based on capitalism.

What my GMing style is progressing to is this kind of dice explored moments and progress bars.

I'm currently experimenting with the feel, but I'm getting to the point of having more things planned within it.

So for example, everyone is in a room, looking, searching, investigating, aracanaing, religiousitying, etc... and their rolls are against a DC. The amount of successes gives them a certain amount of percent chance to succeed.

Then I roll a d100 under that chance, and if it does, they access the thing. If it fails, I add a complication based on the number of failures.

These details are what I'm working on.

Pathfinder 2e roll: Base (d20) + Attribute (Str, Dex etc) + Skill (Proficiency + level) + Equipment + Circumstance + Untyped bonuses.

Anarchy Realms dice roll: Base (d20) + Attribute + Skill + Circumstance + Flat Bonus

Anarchy Realms has a maximum roll of 42. You have to be high level to get there, but it is possible.

d20+d12+10 is the best roll you can get, without counting advantage on the d20 and d12, and that you could technically get three d12 rolls with advantage each taking the highest roll of the 6.

The +10 is a combination of things. Your base level gets a +1 to +5 bonus depending on your level, and then if you are 5 levels over the target's level you can get a +5 to the roll.

So a level 17 vs a level 12 target (trap, enemy, doesn't matter, rolls are the same), and lots of buffs can lead to the above mentioned maximum roll. If you have all those advantages, then you are looking to average 15+10+10 or 35. This of course is everyone pouring everything into helping with this one roll.

Its important to note that this is rare and high level. So the end result is that high end armor and levels lead to Defenses maxing out around 32.

Been dealing with a horrible headache all day. Its been rough rough rough. I was able to share a bit of my action card design concepts with my players and family, and I got super good feedback (essentially the design is 80% easy to grok); the only difficulty is the cooldown/recharge mechanic not being build in to understand with just the card. Everybody is going no initiative, but my favorite games have very specific use of initiative.... like Final Fantasy Tactics, or very specific use of cooldowns, like Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, and almost any other MMO and MOBA out there.

Which is where my one action per turn, multiple turns per round idea came in. If you can only do one thing on your turn, you do it and that's it. You can hope that things will be in the same spot when your turn comes back up, but when does that happen?

So do your action! Then someone else gets to go. The board state is always moving one step at a time.

My current design issue with this, is making it easier for a Game Master to run the monsters in this style of system. But the system itself works great!

So I'm looking to GM-less games, for inspiration.

Adventure books have trouble coming up with a narrative after level 12, because the variables that players can achieve are too great to account for to have a storyline that can be followed.

So is this an issue with high level magic and casting in D&D becoming too.... wild in its ability? Spells that clone you with all spell slots that last indefinitely is way out of scope compared to an Ice Storm or a Cone of Cold.....

Low level (like 1st-4th level) D&D5e and high level (13+) require the same accommodations to prevent them from being murder slog fests.

You need to push for alternate routes, give conversations mattering a chance, and have stakes other than player character death on the line.

Or else you risk senseless TPKs, boring punching bag fights, and cheese strategies.

But those things tend to be forgotten about for levels 5-12, where player power and agency is JUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuST right for combat and normal standard ways of tackling issues. Interestingly that's also the levels in which 5e is most popular. People always want to start as close to level 5 (if not level 5) as possible, and the DM starts checking out usually around level 12.

Sending more praise to Core20 by @scottfgray : The game references boons and banes (which I have as boons and conditions, but had been considering bane) and just being on the same mental wavelength as another designer makes me feel good.

Bugbears..... are Boogey Monsters. Like literally same word origin. Bug and boogey both mean Scary thing. Bear/Monster is known. So a bugbear is just a scary hairy thing in the forest. And a boogey monster is a scary thing in the house/closet/under the bed.

They are.... etymologically, the same creature.

I want to do something with that.
